Artist's Statement

My paintings are explorations of real and imagined relationships to the landscape. By juxtaposing ancient and modern subjects, a new timeless reality is explored, hinting at the possibility that ancient forces are still with us today in the modern world. By using non consistent vantage points, the “Far” becomes “Near”, and “Here” becomes “There”. My aim in overlapping imagery is to create a new synthesis of meaning, revealing hidden forms to guide us on the path towards the infinte beyond, where divisions between space and time collapse.

My inspiration comes from traveling to remote corners of the world to gather impressions from nature and culture, and returning home to reflect on what it all means in relation to the current space and time.

Each painting is a unique expression of what I am going through, and each painting is a pathway. Each has its own story or philosophical motivation, but I leave them open to interpretation. I believe that a painting’s job is to speak for itself, or should I say “to be seen for itself”.
